Afternoon tea at Castle Hill, Filleigh set the scene for co-founders and directors Alexis Bowater OBE and Tess Stuber to introduce the West Country Women Awards to 100 assembled women from across North Devon.

After a welcome from the Countess of Arran, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Devon, Alexis explained how the West Country Women Awards shine a spotlight on women who demonstrate excellence and innovation through categories including:

  • Best Supporting Act
  • Combatting Violence Against Women and Girls
  • Diversity and Equality
  • Employee of the Year
  • Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Green Business of the Year
  • Inspirational Leader
  • Phoenix Award
  • Small Business of the Year
  • Women in Construction and Property
  • Women in Health and Wellbeing
  • Women in Sport
  • Women in STEM

Alexis added that from the moment women are nominated, they are included in a supportive network spanning the South West. The awards’ seven-month networking and training season also includes an exclusive offer for all nominees: half-price training in confidence building, public speaking and overcoming impostor syndrome.

“When we promise to change your lives for the better, we mean it!” said Alexis.

She also introduced Alison Savory of One Acupuncture in Barnstaple, who has take up the role of North Devon Ambassador for the awards, one of six awards ambassadors across Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset.
